The Rosary with Mary and Joseph

by Fr. Larry Toschi, OSJ

An enhanced manner of praying the daily rosary to include Mary’s Spouse, St. Joseph, in the following ways: 1) Using for the Joyful Mysteries the Holy Spouses Prayer, which is an adaptation of the Hail Mary to include St. Joseph; 2) Extending the Joyful Mysteries to ten to cover all 30 years of Jesus’ Incarnation and Hidden Life in accord with the Catechism of the Catholic Church (512-534), five to pray on Mondays and the other five to pray on Saturdays; 3) Adding an invocation to St. Joseph under one of his titles after each of the remaining 15 Marian Mysteries (Luminous, Sorrowful, Glorious); 4) Recalling in the last 15 mysteries which take place in the last three years of Jesus’ life, that he continues to be known as earthly son of Joseph and that Mary remains the virginal widow of Joseph; 5) Including the concluding prayer of Pope Leo XIII to St. Joseph following the Hail, Holy Queen; 6) Finishing with the Litany of the Holy Spouses. The small devotional booklet begins with a six-page explanation, which introduces its use as an in-hand guide for praying the 25 mysteries of the rosary in a more reflective manner. Each of these mysteries has a two-page spread with a beautiful church art photograph, a Scripture quote, a contemplative sentence, a Christological title to add to the name of Jesus, a virtue to imitate, and a group to pray for. For each of the five sets of five mysteries, an introductory summary is given and the weekdays are indicated when that group is prayed. All prayer texts for the initial prayers, the mysteries, and the final prayers are included.
